This is what i made for lunch the other day. I thought it was a really good summer meal. Cold Asian rice noodle salad with grilled salmon and herbs from the garden

And this is what my garden looks like now

I'm so proud of my babies!!!

This is the last addition to my living room. I've been wanting a piece of furniture that could serve as a bar for a while now. So after much research I found this really cheap piece that does the job as well as the vases, and, most importantly, THE pink swan. Now all I need is a really cool vintage martini set!

Summer dinner for two

I usually work late so I rarely get to be home to cook dinner, but tonight I did, and i came up with a great solution to use up all i had in the fridge AND get my man to eat his veggies!

Fish Tacos! Loaded with lettuce, avocado, red onions, tomatoes and cilantro from the garden! We also made grilled corn on the cob that we ate with just butter and salt and I have to say it was one of the best things I've ever had! A little smokiness from the grill, creaminess from the butter and sweet sweet corn, mmmmm...

Summer dinner for a crowd

Yesterday i went over to my friend Cyndie's house for happy hour. She is such a great host, and had set the most beautiful table with amazing food, not to mention the tablecloth, silverware etc...It was just perfect summer finger food: Light, fresh and colorful. Thanks girl!

On a different note, she also has the world's cutest bathroom and i just had to get it in here

Darryl and I had our anniversary dinner at a restaurant called Solera. They have a really nice patio that is perfect for summer, and it doesn't look like anything I've seen in Denver before. The menu is sort of Colorado chic: Goat cheese, lamb, scallops, the usual. A little pricey but everything was very good, including service! They also have a good happy hour, but for that you have to sit inside, which doesn't make any sense...
We were pretty silly that day so it was hard to pick some decent pictures

Mozart Lounge

I am always on the hunt for a good old dive bar, and i usually use the neon signs as the main criteria to whether or not I should go inside. I know, is pretty strange, but I'm a sucker for cool neon signs.
I live right off of Colfax avenue, which is one of the country's longest avenues and used to be a highway. There are still tons of motels, old theaters and diners dating back to the days of the cruising culture of the 50s. And that means lots of neon signs!
So the other day me and my friend Cynthia decided to try out The Mozart Lounge, because i kept driving by and LOVED the sign, and also to take a break from the P.S. Lounge, our favorite Colfax dive and home away from home, where Pete, the owner always welcome us ( and all the other girls) with a shot and a rose.
Turned out the Mozart lounge neighborhood dive had just turned into Aqua lounge neighborhood gay bar. They kept the neon sign at least for now (thank god) and have a smoking patio which is always a plus in my book. The decor was kinda pretentious yet falling a part-ish, and they didn't have any tonic for our gins but were nice enough to run and get us some. I'm happy they're there but overall i don't think we will be going back.

Summertime

I've been pretty busy between work and the world cup, and not really in the mood for writing. But the other day I decided to brave the heat and go get some groceries ( I'm not using the term " brave" lightly, believe me) when i saw THIS:

I'm kinda speechless really.

Bedroom

I fell in love with this bedroom set at an antique store a while a go. It also comes with a beautiful foot and headboard. The only problem is that there was a "sold" sticker on them. So for months every time I went back in the store, I'd run to see if the set was still there, and there it was, gorgeous, and with the "sold" sticker on. I finally started bugging the owner about it, because nobody ever came to pick it up! Time went by and on a recent trip to the store, the owner finally told me that he never heard back from the people that had put a down payment on it, so he agreed to sell it to me with a discount! I'm soooo happy! So these are the pictures of the infamous set in my bedroom.

On a different note, I just realized the other day that this gorgeous rose bush is right under my bedroom window.

Dennis Hopper

A little homage to the man that took the picture that led me to the Smiths. I spent many hours staring at this photo, fascinated by the raw coolness that emanates from it. It is one piece of the puzzle that constituted MY american dream and gave me the sense that i absolutely HAD to come here and experience IT.

Dear Grandma

I always loved this picture of my Grandma. It's her High School graduation picture in the 1940's and I think she looks like a movie star. Worlds apart from what i looked like on my graduation. I can't remember for sure but my hair was either purple or pink ;)
Anyways...Last time i was in Brazil i decided to take pictures of the original photo to have the image with me, and also with the idea to recreate the hairstyle and show it to my Grandma. I asked her for tips too, but she wasn't very keen on explaining it to me claiming it was too out of style. We love each other to death but she could never accept the idea that i don't want to look like everyone else, and i know she meant well. So after much procrastination, I finally decided to give it a go on the last day of Viva Las Vegas. The conditions were less than ideal considering i only had the small hotel mirror to work with and very little time since missing Wanda Jackson's concert was not an option. So even though the result is not as good as I would have liked, i think is decent enough for me to post the pictures, until i try it again with more time ahead of me.

The faux bang turned out neater than what they look like in the picture. But there's a sort of nest of curls on the top of the head that give the impression that there's a big mess going on. Due to some wardrobe malfunctions i ended up having to pick a dress by default, and it doesn't really goes with the style i was going for, but whatever. Is better than walking around the casino with a duck clip in my head like i did on the previous night!!!

Denver Art Deco

I'm sure most people don't know that, but Denver has a lot of really cool architecture, which is one of the main reasons why i like living here so much. I didn't have a clue either before I moved here. All I knew about Colorado was
"South Park". Needless to say it isn't really like that...
I love how when you're driving around and going from one neighborhood to the next, you can totally tell when the houses were build, and that tells you the story of the city. Here are just a few pictures of some cute Art Deco buildings close to my house.

Furniture shopping spree 1

This is MY room. Where i keep all my stuff and where i go when i want to be alone or work on things. It is also the guest room.

1939 electric Singer sewing machine. To be honest i have yet to use to sew, but those machines are gorgeous! This is what it looks like when it's open.

Closed as a desk

Deco era armoire. It's a constant reminder of how little clothes and shoes people use to own comparing to today. I Like to imagine what used to be stored in this armoire. My guess is: 1 suit, 1 evening dress, 1 coat, a few day dresses, skirts and shirts and that's it, cause nothing else would fit in there!

This is a 1945 Vanity. It was only 70$!!!

My Vanity set. I think the print is beautiful, and the crochet underneath was made by my lovely Grandma :)

This is where i keep some of my shoes that don't fit in the closet. Since most of these are high heels and i don't get to where them very often, they are mostly there for my viewing pleasure.

The Insides

Here are a few photos of what my house looks like from the inside. It's pretty late so I'll do a separate post with close up pics of the gorgeous pieces of furniture I've been scoring lately. The kitchen is gonna be in a separate post too because i can't never seem to get it picture ready.

I Finally got some things planted on my little garden patch. Mostly herbs and some flowers. I'll take more pictures once it looks like there's actually something growing in it :)

Happy House 2

Now this is the house that is right in front of mine ( which I rent) and that is for sale for a really good price and i really want to buy! It needs quite a bit of work, but it has so much potential! And it's so cuuuute!

Happy House

So this is what my new house looks like from the outside. I'm planning on planting some rosemary and lavender below the windows.

Spring Has Sprung

Hi everyone!
The goal of this blog is for me to share a slice of my life with my family and friends spread all over. And also to share my Denver likes ( and some of life's dislikes...), and maybe answer the constant "Why are you there/ how is it like/what do you do/ What does it look like"

I'll be posting pictures news and more soon!

Thank's for coming!
